Oh time change...

The time has changed, spring forward and all that crap.  Why we still do this I have no idea, it really messes up my kid, my pets, me!  The only benefit this morning was that Jackson's normally 6:30 wake up was suddenly really 7:30, which also left me feeling rushed all morning, like we were late everywhere we went.  We normally do our errands Saturday morning, leaving Sunday free to play and have a nice breakfast, but we had a birthday party to attend yesterday so that all got pushed to today.  For the first time at Walmart Jackson walked, didn't ride in the cart.  He's done it at the post office, which is in a drug store, but never at a big store before.  And he was really good.  I mean really. He held on to the cart and even in the toy section he paid attention to me and while he let go to walk down to look at the trucks, he didn't run off or anything.  I'm impressed with my little boy, I have a great kid (hopefully I'm still saying that after a few more trips lol).  He helped me put a few things in the cart, and then into the trunk when we got to the car.  But then he saw a puddle... and that was the only iffy bit, where he went to jump in it instead of listening to me.  But I grabbed his hand quickly and steered him away and back to the task at hand. So it was pretty good, I mean he is 2 and it is getting nice out, and he does love to jump and splash.

We stopped for McDonalds breakfast, he loves the burritos, and I got a mocha which was fabulous.  And then we came home, on the clock it was close to 11 but of course it wasn't really so he didn't want "lunch".  He did have a few bites of the burrito and then ate 4 clementines and then it was almost 1 and I took him  up for his nap.  Normally he goes down just after noon at daycare, and at home too for the most part... so that's what it really was to him.  Did he fall asleep?  Not quickly, it was almost 2 before he did.  Ach.  I will have to wake him up by 3:30 at the latest, which is still longer than he naps at daycare, but if he sleeps longer there is no way he'll go to sleep tonight, of course he isn't likely to any way... So I hate the time change.

Spring is finally attempting to arrive though, the weather this weeks promises to be above 0 all week, and into the double digits even!  fabulous, and we'll be able to try out the new jogging stroller, though I'm not sure the ice/water will be gone enough for us to jog anywhere, we should be able to at least get out for a few walks, this afternoon for a start.  After I wake him up.  I'd love a nap myself but am trying not to do that as often. Not quite sure why...

The big trip this winter is still in planning, though I'm debating whether it's a good idea at all.  It's going to cost quite a bit of money, which could be better spent as the down payment on a house or on making a baby :-)  Jackson will only be 3 at the time, so he won't likely remember anything of the trip any way!  And of course there is the issue of what I want and what my sister wants.  Which are not as compatible as you might think.  So we'll see if it happens at all.  As one friend said, sometimes living on a budget sucks, but you have to look at what you really want.  I really want a house, and another baby.

The birthday party we were at was for a little girl who turned 2.  She has a little brother who is now 5 months old.  Jackson was quite taken with baby Cooper. And was talking about him this morning, and saying mommy has a baby Cooper too.  I have asked him a couple times if he would like a sibling, comparing it to a few of his daycare friends who are twins or who have older siblings he also knows at daycare.  He has always said no.  But today he said sure.  Yes I know, he's 2, he certainly doesn't understand, but it was something lol.

The party ended later than it was supposed to, both their families are notoriously late for things, so Jackson was also quite tired by the time we got home, and having just had some cake and ice cream, was not really in the mood to go to bed.  That didn't help his overnight sleep too much, but he woke up at his normal time.  I hope the rest of this week goes well, it can take a few days to adjust to the time change and get back on track.  It will be interesting to see how it goes.  I think last year was easier because he was going to bed quite a bit earlier, so it was more adjusting him to a normal bed time.  This year will be different.  I'm hoping the fresh air, and a bath tonight, will help him sleep.  And a short'ish nap.

Planning a big trip

The other day I was talking to a friend at work about my "dream  board"  this is a big bristol board where I put photos and copies of things I want, or want to happen.  So I was adding my house, the one I found a floor plan for that I really like and is in my price range (when I get that far) and is going to be mine.  He asked what else is on there, well a picture of Disney with a kid having lots of fun, the car I want, a few other  things.  So 30 seconds later my phone badabings at me, I have a message. We finish or conversation and I check my message. It's my sister, she thinks we all should go to Disney this Christmas.  The 4 of them, my parents and me and Jackson.  Huh.  My friend, when I told him, said I should put winning the lottery on my board...

Now I'm in the process of figuring out if I can afford this.  How much will it cost? My parent's are retired so they are in charge of researching where to stay, my sister and I think we should rent a house with a pool as it would be cheaper than staying at Disney itself.  I'm sure we can find something with 4 bedrooms that would work for us.  Then the flight, we can fly direct from Ottawa to Orlando which is great, I'm hoping Jackson does well on the plane, and I do.  I haven't flown in a long time, and I was normally pretty good at it, never bothered me.  But I have a kid now and am much more aware of what can go wrong for some reason.  We also need to get passports.  I wonder what that will be like, getting his picture done?  I am hoping there are no issues with travelling with him, there is no father listed on the birth certificate so I don't think it will be an issue, I will of course take the birth certificate as well as the passport just in case.  I do not want any issues!

I think it will be a lot of fun. Of course it has made me have to change my baby 2 plans.  This cuts into the budget I was working on for that, and timing wise I don't want to be just after an IUI or first trimester and going on this trip.  So I will have to consider all of that.

Now I'm off to put my head on a photo of someone winning the lottery and getting the giant cheque for $50 million... wish me luck ;-)

Winter wear

Things are going pretty well in our little world.  Jackson and I have a good routine going, and he's growing so fast!  He loves to sing now and serenades me with ABC's, Baa baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle and a few others, it's very cute.  He is getting to be very vocal, and totally Canadian... he often adds eh to the end of sentences, and has quite the little personality.  We have a lot of fun together, and he is enjoyable.  He loves to play outside at daycare, and so he has started to wear out his winter wear... First it was the snow pants.  He wore the knees right out of them.  I was lucky and found another pair, on sale. Phew. But now it's mittens.  And there don't seem to be any left at the stores we shop in.  So I don't know what I'm supposed to do.  Sigh.  He has wonderful snowstoppers, they have long sleeves that go up under his coat, but apparently they prefer to use the regular mittens, which I had honestly only intended to be used in the not quite so cold and wet weather!  Big sigh.  I have a second pair of them here that we were going to use on walks and things, which of course we haven't really done this winter (mama does not like winter/cold) so I guess they are going to have to do... unless we find some tomorrow, I guess we'll have to stop at another store.

I ordered a lovely bike trailer/jogging stroller yesterday that I can't wait to get.  I am going to do the couch to 5k again this spring, though in a shorter time frame as I think I am almost able to run a 5k.  I am looking forward to taking Jackson biking this summer, perhaps down to the river to have a picnic or something like that.  Course I haven't been on a bike in many years, but you never forget how to do it, do you?  I hope not lol.  The contraption holds up 77 lbs I believe, so he's got a ways to go, at just over 31 lbs now.  He is still growing of course, and my little giant still.

It is kind of funny that I see commercials for little kids and toddlers and I feel like I've missed that, he just doesn't look like other toddlers to me and I'm not sure why that is.  He is still a little kid, I mean he still sleeps in a crib (he hasn't tried to get out and I have no intention of changing him til I have to!), he still has bottles at bed time... yeah yeah,  he likes them and they make things easier, so we do what works.  He still naps, love the 2 to 3 hour weekend naps :-)  and he still gets a big kick of such silly little things.  He loves to do things that make me smile and get excited, the first time he sang his ABC's all the way through with no help, he was so proud of himself.  He loves to make mommy proud.  And (knock wood) hasn't had too many toddler tantrums.  When he does, it's usually because he's tired or hungry, so correcting that, and his behaviour corrects too.  Perhaps this is my reward for his colic, and lack of sleeping through the night?  lol, I can wish right?

I was at a bridal shower on the weekend, two pregnant ladies and one 5 month old little boy... hormones were kicked into high gear lol. But I have my plan and that helps me to stick to it.  I am planning to go to my doctor this summer to see if I can get some baseline testing done, to start trying in November or so.  Part of it depends on what happens at work.  Our contract is renegotiated this fall, and there is a change coming that may bring me about $10k to put towards a house.  And I am hoping to be in a process for a promotion by April/May.  Both of those will mean I can buy a house in the new year, before a second baby would arrive.  And that is right on plan.  Add in the fact my credit is better than it was, and I will be going to the bank this summer as well, to talk about my savings and what I need to do to get a mortgage properly, and my RRSP, and possibly an RESP for Jackson.  All in all... things are pretty good so I am hoping to try later.  Though the longer I wait, the harder it is to consider having another baby.  I like our little life and is it right to bring another baby in to "mess it up"?  It will be extremely hard, and expensive, and is it fair?  but on the other hand, I don't want Jackson to be an only child if I can do anything about it.   So I will try, once I have the money, house and health stuff sorted out.

Health wise I have lost 20lbs this year so far, and am needing to lose another 24 to reach a "healthy" weight, and I'd like to lose another 20 on top of that, so 44 total.  Should be possible, before fall any way, hopefully sooner.  It is certainly liberating to be losing and able to buy smaller clothes and be comfortable in my own skin/body.  I still don't really see it in the mirrot though.  And of course Jackson doesn't even notice anything, even when I got abot 10 inches cut off my hair, he didn't notice at all... boys ;-)

Work, credit and decisions

Work has taken an interesting turn. I went for an interview Friday for a position that would let me stay in the same building. I think it went ok, but since I can't travel or do overtime I may not be considered. I am not entirely sure I want to change jobs. I do like what I do for the most part, and like my manager, but am feeling stifled, I'd like a new challenge, and I don't think my boss will do that for me. So I'm not sure what to do. I'm also concerned because the new building is a bit further than where I am now. It will mean less time with my kid, which I don't like the thought of at all.

I am also a bit excited.  I have crappy credit, like the worst you could possibly have.  But I got a letter Thursday from my visa company telling me I qualify for an increase. Since my limit was like the lowest you could have, I accepted, with the intention of only using it when I have the money to pay it off.  But it makes me think my credit is better, better enough to maybe qualify for things like a real car lease/loan or possibly even a mortgage.  Not that I have the down payment yet of course, but it gives me hope. And makes me more likely to stick to my budget and get where I want to be.

Also makes the prospect of having another child interesting. I suddenly have a little buffer, money I can use if I really need to, even if it costs me a lot of interest in the end.  I am still thinking of trying in the fall, early winter.  I turn 37 soon, so would be 38 when I have that baby, that is quite a bit older than I was when I had Jackson, which may be an issue.  But I am working on my lose weight plan, and it's going quite well.  I am getting healthier, and am going to start jogging again in the spring, hoping to get a bike too.  Healthier, active, maybe able to buy a new house... things are looking good.  And I'm feeling good.

Well I would be if I didn't have this cold from hell, it seems Jackson and I have been sick pretty much since Christmas, I cannot wait for winter to be over!

Lesson Learned

Merry Christmas!  Jackson and I had a great day.  My parents came to stay and we all went to my sister and her family's place for dinner.  It was very good, though she didn't do turkey.  Jackson was super excited when he came down the stairs and saw what Santa had left.  He was thrilled with the train set, and the kitchen Nanny & Poppy gave him, and the trampoline.  But I went a bit overboard.  He got bored of opening presents so it was a bit too much.  Next year I will know, just one or two toys lol.  It will save me some money too.  He definitely has enough toys now.  To last for years.

I'm a bit tired, I could use a nap but my parent's are out for brunch and will be coming back to get their dog in a little while before they go home.  So tomorrow I guess I can nap.  Jackson is also tired, he still has a cold and it doesn't seem to be getting much better.  I hope that lots of rest this week will help him get healthier.  I also hope I don't have to take him to the doctor.  I do hate when he's sick, and when I'm sick, and when I can't really do anything to help him feel better.

I had thought to try some potty training while we're off but I'm not sure I'm up to it.  I will put him on when he asks, and we'll watch the Potty Time movie, but I won't be doing the putting him on the potty every 30 minutes or anything.  I will save that for summer if he's not done by then.

And in baby news, I still would like another kid, and am patiently waiting to sort out the money stuff, and lose some weight, and figure it all out.  Or I'll get a puppy... I already have a dog and two cats, but a puppy might kill the baby wanting bug for a few months at least... maybe :-)

Visit with a baby

Jackson and I went to visit a friend today.  She and her husband (who wasn't home today) moved into their brand new house at the beginning of the month.  They have Emmy who is about 19 months now, and baby Cooper who was born Oct 14th.  So she has her hands full.  I was interested to see how Jackson was with a baby, and to see if I remembered anything about how to deal with them myself lol, my little man is such a big boy now I was worried I'd forgotten how to hold a baby and all that stuff.

Cooper is very adorable, he sure looks like his sister, you can really tell they are siblings!  I am very glad Jackson finally figured out how to say Cooper (he's been saying Pooper since I showed him a pic a month or so ago...)  That would have been embarassing!  I have to say though, as much as I want a second little one, I am glad I don't have number 2 yet. She seems really busy, and as she put it, she has very little time for herself now.  She does have a husband around to help of course, but I think she still have difficulty getting time for herself.

I was able to pick the baby up and hold him, carry him up and down stairs (tour of their new house), and I probably could have done a diaper change if needed lol, course I still do those for Jackson so I'm in practice on that... I am a touch jealous, she is 41 now, and got married at 39, first baby, now second, brand new house... all the stuff I'm supposed to want I think. And some of it I do, minus the married part :-)  Her house is really nice, brand new, no fence yet though, which I would really want for the dog, laundry upstairs, I'd LOVE that.  new appliances, and all that nice stuff.  Main floor is very open concept, basement is finished into a family room.  Only issue I have, it's a townhouse, end unit, but still attached.

I can't believe that in less than two weeks my baby will be 2.  He seems so grown up sometimes, so different from a year ago, it's amazing to watch him grow and develop.  He is so freakin cute :-)  And I love him, love being a mom.  Life is pretty good.  Even when it all feels a little overwhelming.  I cannot wait for Christmas vacation, we are off for 10 1/2 days together,  I do think it'll take 3 or 4 for me to relax and get into the routine of it, and then we can have fun with each other, and all his new toys ;-)

Shoes and other stuff

Today I had my first parent teacher interview at daycare.  It was interesting.  Apparently my son is behind in his fine motor skills, but good with the gross motor skills.  He can't take off his own shoes.  Or put on his coat, or completely unzipper it on his own.  I didn't know he should be learning the skills already, isn't it early?  I feel like I've been told I'm a bad parent, I should have been doing these things with him for months now apparently.

I was also told he doesn't jump off things.  Umm, is he supposed to?  I mean I've been telling him for awhile now to stop jumping on things, let alone off them... but he's supposed to be able to do that?  Ok.  I guess I don't know much about this parenting thing!  He can climb a tree, a hill, run, hop, and go down the slide on his own, but he can't undo the velcro on his shoes.  I'm finding this all a bit strange.

He has a lot of words, he parrots and repeats almost everything you say (gotta watch myself driving...) but he only uses two word sentences... which is odd cause he was using 3 or 4 words tonight... maybe he doesn't do that there?  He doesn't always listen to the teachers, you know if it's time to go in and he's having fun they have to go and get him cause he won't come when called... ok... he's not even 2 yet!

Oh, and while he plays well on his own, he doesn't like to be interrupted when he is playing, or have the other kids take what he is playing with.  He will also just go and take the things he wants.  Ok, he's an only child, he has never had to share!  I realize he needs to learn this but I don't think it's something he can learn in the two months he's been at this daycare.  Yes he's only been there 2 months.  In two months he should have learned to take off his shoes and put on his coat, and play with others, and a bunch of other stuff.

But he knows things, she did admit he's very smart.  He knows his colours and when you ask him things he knows what you are asking, and even in his parroting he seems to understand what he is saying.  I'm just a little frustrated I guess.  I mean I didn't know I was supposed to be doing these things, getting him to take things off and put them on.  It does explain why he took half his pajamas off yesterday at bed time.  He was practising his zippers.

It was picture day today, and I took a pic before I sent him off to daycare... excuse the mess :-) And tell me how fabulously cute he is lol
